Meet Dr. Simon Choi, Ph.D.
Licensed Clinical Psychologist & Neuropsychologist
Dr. Simon Choi is a licensed clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist specializing in comprehensive psychological assessments. He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University, an APA-accredited program, and completed his postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology following an APA-accredited internship at Mount Sinai Services, Elmhurst Hospital. Dr. Choi received his B.A. from Northwestern University and has trained extensively at leading institutions including Columbia University, NYU, NYC Health + Hospitals, and Mount Sinai. Earlier in his education, Dr. Choi attended Eaglebrook School and Middlesex School, experiences that inform his collaborative work with families navigating school placement decisions as well.
Dr. Choi is an expert in evaluating a broad range of conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, learning differences (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia), psychiatric disorders (e.g., anxiety, depression, OCD, bipolar disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders, substance use, schizophrenia-spectrum conditions, disruptive/impulse-control disorders, PTSD), and neurocognitive disorders. His clinical and research work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, and he has been a Federal Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Grant Recipient through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). He also served as a reviewer for Transcultural Psychiatry and Spirituality in Clinical Practice and a Guest Editor for the MDPI journal Religions (Special Issue).
Dr. Choi is an Adjunct Faculty Member at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he supervises clinical psychology doctoral students in psychological assessments. He is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Academy of Neuropsychology, the New York City Cognitive Behavior Therapy Association, and the New York State Psychological Association. Dr. Choi is also an active board member at Chungkang College of Cultural Industries in South Korea.
In addition to assessments, he provides integrative, relational psychodynamic therapy, incorporating elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP). He values spirituality as an essential dimension of psychological well-being and integrates it into his clinical approach when appropriate.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Choi enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and corgi, as well as meditating, exercising, playing ice hockey, and watching films.
